IP-RACINE  Annual Reports

Summary of Activities Year 2 (October 2005-September 2006)

IP-RACINE helped partners to develop many products already available on the market. They are described here. Our two first testbeds were succesful and are explained in this report - we have a video demo too! The "Digital Cinema Perspectives" books was published and is available on the web. Finally, a glimpse of our future work is also given.

Summary of Activities Year 1 (October 2004-September 2005)

IP-RACINE RTD Activities are divided into five groups: Workflow and Data Handling; improved digital cameras; the Virtual Film Studio; Film Object description and processing; and Digital Playout and Display of sound and image.

Other Documents

D7.4.3 Demonstration of low cost compact digital cinema projector with touch-screen user control

The availability of a smaller DLPTM display chip with 2K resolution has enabled the introduction of a more compact and lower cost projector platform for digital cinema.  As the reduced size of the micro-display enables a corresponding reduced size of the optical components and of the projection lens. More details are given in the document. The on-line version is only an abstract of the private document.

Updated Metadata Set of the Camera (D4.1.5)

This document is the specification of the updated metadata set to be implemented in the camera. The scope is limited to the camera only, including the signals that may be transported by the camera like the lens and positioning metadata.

Initial project presentation (D8.5.2)

The IP-Racine project presentation is intended to give our industrial and academic contacts and the general public a good idea of what the project is and who is working in it. After the ramp-up period of the project and during the specification phase, the goals of the project were refined. It was then decided to advertise our very own existence through the usual means, i.e. a web site, posters and handouts.

IP-RACINE Project Multimedia website (D8.5.1)

The web site task consisted in designing a new logo, a set of presentation documents templates and a web site presenting the project.

Digital cinema standards evolution report (D8.4.1)

At least one IP-Racine partner is an active member or partner of the above organization. The most interesting one is SMPTE who will establish what is seen as the main standard for digital cinema delivery format. The DC-28 committee of the SMPTE is working more than 3 years on this problem and just received this summer the official document called ‘DCI specification v.1’ issued by the DCI. The whole standardization process is supposed to be completed in more or less two years from now (end of 2007).

Digital Cinema Research, Production and Standards Report (D8.2.2)

This document is an update to Del8.2.1 drafted in May and June 2006, so we will not repeat here the info given in 8.2.1.

The state of the art in digital cinema is given by a survey of the manufacturers’ latest products and also by discussions, meetings and information collected in various ways at the major public events that are related to cinema. NAB, IBC, Showest and CinemaExpo to name a few.

Demonstration of a DCDM compliant with the DCI standard and the specification dcument (D7.2.2)

A DCDM (Digital Cinema Distribution Master) is supposed to be as interoperable as possible between all theatre equipments in the world in order to maximize the
availability of digital content in cinemas.

Demonstrator of a single projector 3-D solution in cinema

This document provides an overview on our single projector stereoscopic projection demonstration.

Metadata in the digital Cinema Workflow and its standards (D3.2.1)

This document provides an overview on the various existing and evolving standards related to metadata in the digital cinema workflow. It is divided into three parts:

- A list of the different metadata types needed for a real digital cinema workflow
- A 'metadata standards' overview for the digital cinema workflow and for the digital intermediate process
- A description of initiatives promoting and standardizing the digital cinema workflow
