Free digital cinema content available for tests and research

The IP-Racine decided in 2006 to give a lot of digital cinema content available for free to any interested research and development project in the field. Those image are completely free of right and may thus be reused by any research project for private and public presentations. The only constraint is that a credit to the EC sponsored project IP-Racine should be included in the projected sequence:

This movie sequence is a courtesy of the
IP-Racine research project consortium supported
by DG InfSo of the European Commission,

.

To receive a full set of images, please apply by email to ipracinellista.upf.edu .

The available content is a set of digital cinema sequences taken with a Thomson-Grass Valley Viper Camera in native 1920x1080 pixels format with some associated metadata. Each sequence is given as a directory of .DPX files (also know as cineon file format).

The available sequences were shot during the IP-Racine testbed 1 in Madrid in June 2006.

Sequences list
  • A dancer with balloons on 'green screen' background shot by University of Glasgow during testbed 1. [129 seconds; 3104 frames in non colour corrected .dpx format]
  • Three dance sequences on green background shot with fixed camera
  • One dance sequence on green background shot with moving camera on crane
  • One calibration sequence with MacBeth
  • Two face recognition sequences with the same dancer but closer shot
Sample

A sample of those images is given here but due to the very large size of uncompressed digital cinema images, it is technically impossible to put all the available images on this web site. In order to give you a taste of the incredible quantity of data stored and manipulated in the movie creation process, here is a single second or 24 frames of rushes from the 'Dancing with balloon' green screen sequence. The 24 frames are numbered 2373 to 2396 and are extracted from shot  #2106. Each images is provided in original .DPX format (download and open them with Photoshop or any other DPX compatible image editor).

In order to give an Internet browser visible version, we added jpg converted versions of the original image from the camera (+/- 1 Mb) and the jpg converted color corrected version (+/- 2 Mb). Click on the thumbnails to display the original size (1920x1080) picture. The right link downloads the uncompressed full resolution original image (7.91 Mb par image).
